GIS Map/Application Request

Overview

The form pertains to any GIS requests which includes but not limited to: developing, analyzing, extracting, etc. in regards to GIS & spatial-temporal data.

Who can submit this request?

  • Requests can be from any employee, unless supervisor approval is needed 
  • External requests are accepted but needs approval(s).

How we process your request

Typical resolution time:

Basic Request: 1-2 business days, Moderately Involved Request: 1 week, Complex Request: 1 week+ (all resolution times dependent on current project workload)

Process:

After you submit your request, MIS will:

  • Determine the project scope and minimum time dedication dependent on the request.
  • Review the existing data in possession, additional data needed or data that was included with the request
  • Follow-up with the submitter to determine the vision aligns with their expected outcome
  • Execute the project
  • Send a draft to the submitter for initial review.
  • Based on comments from review, make changes and complete tasks related to the project
  • If the deliverable is a map or data extract, it will be emailed or printed; if it's an application, links will be provided.

Note: If the project is an application, multiple discussions will be had during the development as well as multiple reviews completed in conjunction with the submitter.

Before you submit a ticket, you will need to:

  • Determine if you need any type of authorization especially if data is from another department
  • Know if the data for the proposed map is available
  • Know if request has been submitted in the past so it can be quickly replicated
  • Determine if you need a printed or digital (PDF) static map, a mapping application, a modification of an existing map or application, or a data extract
  • Compile any relevant data that you want presented on the map(s)
  • If requesting a printed map, decide what size map you need (common sizes are 8.5"x11", 11"x17', 24"x36", and 36"x48")
  • Determine your preferred map orientation (portrait or landscape)
  • Determine any geospatial analysis you want included as part of map or application (density map, heat map, trend analysis)
